“The Cabin is Pressurized for Your Comfort”

-	Hawaiian Airlines Announcement

I do find living comfortable, especially when
rust reverberates so fiercely all that’s left
is a saffron-colored stain in the shape

of landing gear. Crows have no need
for wax wings; they don’t flinch like Icarus
being interrogated by the sun, even when

tendrils of cloud dissipate to reveal
a dizzy squall of light disguised as morning.
Tomorrow is an emporium for the unknown

peppered with Polaroid pictures offering
instant nostalgia. Remember when we laughed
about the flight attendant’s announcement,

how we pictured ourselves surrounded
by Lincoln Logs, carefully adjusting our masks
before escaping down the inflatable slide?

I really don't like these kinds of prompts, but I used 1/2 of the words - am totally feeling burnout today, and it probably shows

Rainbow Cathedrals Of Desire
Angeliad of Surazeus
2010 04 22
http://open.salon.com/blog/surazeus/2010/04/22/rainbow_cathedrals_of_desire

Red owl in a black oak tree hoots
while old man with long silver hair
carves runes of light on gray stone.
Young woman with long brown hair
tied in a bun steps from glass door
of university library in blue twilight.
Books sit unread on metal shelves
though Jupiter shines silver at dusk
as students watch movies on eye pad.
I will build you from petals and wire
elegant rainbow cathedrals of desire.

I carry million books in one gem
she whispers holding our world
in her hands as a spinning globe.
Young girl with long wild blond hair
wearing leather jacket and lace skirt
screams into a microphone at a bar.
You will never touch my real soul
because I hide behind a plastic mask
so love me for I am Barbie your queen.
I will build you from water and fire
elegant rainbow cathedrals of desire.

Silent thoughts of a jester clown
wearing moon mask will reverberate
between a thousand open doors.
Prophet of Pain grips my shoulders
shouting leave your car on highways
to rust because oil is blood of earth.
Twelve boys in saffron robes sit
meditating on old television sets
discussing philosophy of illusions.
I will build you from mist and cat fur
elegant rainbow cathedrals of desire.

Florence Nightingale in business suit
picks red pepper on lone Texas plain
then points to last star flickering red.
Red owls opens wide silver eyes
so I see everything that will happen
yesterday before tomorrow is gone.
Helen Keller finds a crumbling statue
of Hatshepsut hidden behind shadow
in vast emporium sea to shining sea.
I will build you from cream and despair
elegant rainbow cathedrals of desire.

Tendril of a grape vine from mind
of eternal spirit who creates all life
curls around my wrist in forest of hope.
Squall howls from ocean of despair
overturning small boat on Godin Sea
as Maid of Norway slips from my hand.
Dizzy on angel wings in tight blue jeans
Semiramis struts runway in glass temple
as seven dwarves worship with cameras.
I will build you from soft unicorn hair
elegant rainbow cathedrals of desire.

Dead king in a clean business suit
walks rotting in halls of shining banks
but Robin Hood points making him flinch.
Invisible hand steals coins of gold
from pocket of men who worked years
in factories where cold wind howls fierce.
Oldest woman on earth in silent cave
opens hands to reveal a diamond egg
that gives birth to my soul in a crow.
I will build you from horns of a deer
elegant rainbow cathedrals of desire.

Purple owl hoots in plastic pine tree
where three angels hang crystal balls
showing our world mapped upside down.
I store my memories on a gold disk
that spins flashing eyes of lost angels
who build rainbow cathedrals of desire.
Children open presents with ribbons
on Christmas day but boxes are empty
so they hold hands and sing new hymns.
I will build you from wolf eyes in a lair
elegant rainbow cathedrals of desire.

I come at last to Scarborough Fair
so I find a cute girl who lives there
but I forgot his name similar to a bear.
I dig her a well with my silver spoon
then seal ship with yellow pine bar
and bend magic wands into wagon wheels.
God knows itself as well as I know myself
so open wide your eyes with sharing love
and dance with me on lush Takoma hills.
I will build you from voices of a choir
elegant rainbow cathedrals of desire.

Loved this prompt - thanks, Catherine. These crows have been hanging out in the back of my mind for some time now.

A Squall of Crows

A squall of crows descends
upon the walnut grove,
fierce black pepper souls.
The sky reverberates
with caws and beat of wings,
a dizzy feathered frenzy.
They bomb the road with nuts
to crack the shells
and squabble over broken bits.

And when they leave we miss them,
the sedate trees and I;
In the still branches linger
shadows and echoes
of a glorious chaos.

"Trampoline John, Trampoline Jean" - their voices reverberate from a great height.

"Trampoline John, Trampoline Jean,
The bounciest we've ever seen;
They put electrodes in their pockets,
Fitted out their shoes with rockets..."
