by the Read Write Poem Staff
It’s Day 2! And Read Write Poem member Therese Broderick has a great prompt for you. (Please don’t expect the introductions to all of our NaPoWriMo prompts to rhyme):
If you love acronyms as I do, your mind has already shortened “Read Write Poem” into “RWP.” But the three letters RWP form known acronyms for at least 31 other phrases, including “Random Weird Person” and “Right Wing Pundits.”
Today’s writing prompt is to type the letters RWP into the abbreviation search field at Acronym Attic and write a poem inspired in any way by one or more of the resulting phrases. You don’t have to use the words from the phrase in your poem, but you can if they fit. GLWI (Good Luck With It)! ![]()
Reminders for everyone
Read the Read Write Poem NaPoWriMo Challenge Kickoff post for details on how the challenge works — and how you can engage with Read Write Poem this month, no matter what your personal writing challenge is for the month of April.
Please read this page to find out how Read Write Poem’s prompt posts work. Remember that work linked from any post this month is shared in precisely that spirit: sharing, as opposed to critiquing. If you haven’t done so already, please read all the pages under About in the navigation bar.

My acronym was “Rare Witch Project.”

Sorry, based on Right Wing Porn.
I need to clamber out of the quicksand of iambic pentameter while I still can. (In other words, stop fussing and fixing and just post!)
Here’s Rain Water Pipe.

The Noise of Silence
Hi, here is a quick offering!
RIP while printing
I died when I bought my coloured printer
I died and went to hell
This stupid lazy bint
couldn’t fit the bill.
I went to change the ink
Hubby inserted printer drivers
I am still alive by a thread
but the printer’s bigger than a suede tiger
I sent it to the cleaners, did some writing
I couldn’t get it working, now I’ve packed it in.
Happy Friday!
Day 2 is posted, finally… Hope you like it. It’s now time for me to catch up on reading the great stuff poets are sharing.
The first entry, regular white paper, kept my attention, so I went with that: No Such Thing
having too much fun!!! and it’s been great visiting new friends…. monster moves thanks for stoppin by…
Not loving this attempt, but it’s something. I went with Right Wing Policy, and you can view it at http://www.rrosenchang.blogspot.com. Thanks!
I picked a phrase but didn’t use it in the poem…it was really fun, though! Thanks for the cool prompt.

My blog is in the middle of a transition to my own domain name, so it’s not available for linking. So here’s my response to this prompt:
RWP = Regular White Paper
What anxiety a simple piece of
regular white paper
plows up.
Virgin white lines
await my words–
easy script in blue
should flow from my fountain pen.
But I’m awash in thoughts
too elusive for mere letters and words,
seeking my inexpressible
domestic language,
soul-stirred and
passion-melded.
“Dare I disturb the universe?”
I ponder with T.S.,
the pounding pressure of performing
pinching my shoulders
as pen hovers over
random white page.
Self-doubt, my personal satan,
refuses to get behind me.
“You can’t write badly
if you don’t write at all,”
he snickers.
But stifling one’s passions
causes massive damage–
requiring therapy of cursive
loops crossing pages,
loosing pent-up scars.
Emotions whirr,
tilting my world
until I dangle by my fingertips,
nails digging into flesh,
too fractured to move,
too terrorized
to put pen to paper,
setting loose
my demons and
my salvation–
on
regular white paper.

Very nice piece. I like that you address an issue we all face – the horrid blank page. Sometimes it’s just too much! I feel like this piece starts off with a kind of innocent voice, and then becomes darker the farther it goes.
Here we go with napowrimo #2

RARE WITCH PROJECT

I chose “rear wheel push.” resident evil.
One more poem for your poetic pleasure. This has nothing to do with the acronym, but everything to do with Joseph Ratzinger (the Pope).
http://www.BabblingOnInBabylon.com/Blog
I had a couple of the acronyms floating around in my head when I wrote today’s poem; “right wing pundit(s)” happened to be the one to assert itself before the others (’surprise, surprise), although only the word “pundits” remains…
the poem, “Hot Metal Bridge” is on my blog at http://revolutionarysweetheart.blogspot.com

Cell Phone Call
I call from my rental car
and somewhere in the troposphere
a vibration sings its wet way to you,
reconfiguring itself into my voice
to say “Hello.” Radio waves
propagated the air long before
we knew they were there
or how they could serve
to bridge distances with sound.
They carry words without paper
in denial of ink’s hubris
even as this hot tropical air
suffuses the mouthpiece
with a deafening roar
until I must sound like
nothing but breath
angry with itself
for not thinking of language
sooner.
It might be hard to believe, but this lune took hours:

Nothing really transpired from the prompt (although it was definitely a great idea!) so I went in my own direction.

Random Wierd Person
She got on a bus, with no particular destination in mind, riding the route, past the little houses with the patches of green-stamp yards starting to show through the bits of dirty snow still gamely hanging on, noting odd bits exposed-one boot, a pair of jeans, white Reeboks side by side as if someone had just stepped right out of them and ran home in stocking feet and strangest of all, trampled undies, tossed in the gutter.
What random weird person decided they had had it with wearing clothes, and left a trail of them, block by block, in a bizarre strip-tease, tired of being random and weird and saying “hey–look at this–I am not my clothes, I am not my label, I am not the passenger you see on this bus,
tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow.
I’m in a workshop here at college that is providing the occasional prompt as well. Two in one day was a stretch, but here’s what the course prompt resulted in:
http://poemsaboutnothinginparticular.blogspot.com/2010/04/time-and-i.html
Random Weird Person Walking Uptown on 7th Avenue
Heavy purple lady
sequined skirt dragging dust mites from yesterday’s floorboards,
fur scarf wrapped and bound,
parasol erect and proud to keep away April’s sun beams-
A lady!
Oh! What diamonds lay beneath her folds of wool and flesh?
What demons hide between the crawling crinoline?
Regular white paper
I have given most things
back to the ground
love/cost/memory
root to root, by
root, ritualistically
things that are buried
should rightly grow
All else should be lifted
into the otherwise invisible air
Cheap but apparent
as meaningful
as smoke
