It’s time to get on with the gettin’ on. Where did the thread take you? Midnight reveries? Sour morning frustrations? Back to the moment that sparked your being? Wherever you went, and however you arrived, we can’t wait to read!
Please read this page to find out how the Get Your Poem On and Read Write Prompt posts work.
Remember that work linked from this post is shared in precisely that spirit: sharing, as opposed to critiquing.
If you haven’t done so already, please read all the pages under About in the navigation bar.![]()
If you participate in a Read Write Prompt, we ask that you link back here in your posts, either with a link to Read Write Poem or by using the Read Write Poem badge in your post. Sidebar links are great but it helps others find the site when you link in every post you contribute to the project. It’s not a lot to ask in acknowledgment of the work everyone is doing in providing prompts for members to use.

Ack! We had a little schedule problem. Sorry the post wasn’t up at midnight! Ack!

This is, sadly, as close as I could get to writing about the prompt. At least there is humor in it.

The Answer.
Yes, but do you know what the question is?
I don’t know if you’ll like my poem, but I’m sure you’ll like the picture.

Konstantin.
Um, forgive me if I start to improvise here. With your indulgence, here I go….
Hate/Hate/Hate
she hated you so long ago
poisoned the affections of friends
toward you
always pronounced your name
with a baring of the teeth
tossed her head
as if to say
she were some
bottom-dwelling aristocrat
sharp nose sharp chin
gleaming beady eyes
if she could have
spat acid in your face
she would have
you said nothing
did nothing
she just felt
as she did
if she could have ruined your life
she’d have done it
in a trice
and danced on the
dreams of your desires
her feelings slumbered
lay buried
these many years
but over a decade later
brat in tow
racing through
the secondhand store
with a little jolt
she recognizes you
stops
and her lips curl back
somewhere between
a smile
and a sneer….

Ever had this sort of experience, incidentally? Happens to me all the time…

MULTI-VITAMIN

healthy blood pressure
physical energy
eyes to read Dostoyevsky
ears to listen to Tchaikovsky
voice for reading aloud Dickinson

I’m back after rather a long hiatus from blogging. This one’s drawn from life, though I wish it weren’t. Obliquely related to the prompt. Thank you for providing a push to get it on paper. It feels good to be writing again!
Broken
Greg,
OUCH! Doesn’t sound like a happy ending to me.

I had the Peter Gabriel song “Digging in the Dirt” stuck in my head all week as a result of the title of the prompt post, and the song influenced my poem as much as the wordle.
I’ve moved my writing away from my nature blog and on to my new writing blog.

Thanks for letting me share!
Shoot, I just realized that I’m responding to prompt #118, not 119. I missed 119 somehow. Sorry about that! Still figuring things out around here. (blushing)

Lack of internet connection means that this is very, very late. I hope I haven’t missed the chance to have it read and enjoyed, however. I will certainly be reading as many of everyone elses as I can fit in!
