How did last week’s image prompt inspire you? Did you write to it, or something else? (It’s okay if you didn’t write to prompt. We’re just glad you are here, reading and writing poetry.)
Be sure to come back tomorrow for another prompt (it’s our celebrity prompt). ![]()
Please read this page to find out how the Get Your Poem On and Read Write Prompt posts work.
Remember that work linked from this post is shared in precisely that spirit: sharing, as opposed to critiquing.
If you haven’t done so already, please read all the pages under About in the navigation bar.![]()
If you participate in a Read Write Prompt, we ask that you link back here in your posts, either with a link to Read Write Poem or by using the Read Write Poem badge in your post. Sidebar links are great but it helps others find the site when you link in every post you contribute to the project. It’s not a lot to ask in acknowledgment of the work everyone is doing in providing prompts for members to use.

Charles is a traveler…
Yep, I went in an unexpected direction with this one. I guess I’ve been watching too much Heroes because I started thinking about carnivals.

…and something for a giggle… So Amusing
I loved the prompt, enjoyed writing the poem. Here is the link to the poem ‘Ashes Don’t Float Away’ – http://umaathreya.blogsome.com/2010/03/04/ashes-dont-float-away/
I ended up with a thing called And At The Hour
This week’s: My Brain An Enchanted Loom.
And I ended up with,

This came out much more morbid than I suspected it would.

I didn’t write to the prompt this week, but I did write a poem, and here it is:
Change

Apologies in advance for my continuing inability to read/comment on everyone else’s work — having a new baby means my computer time is deeply limited! But I love having y’all drop by and read what I’ve written even so…
I was AWOL last week, so I wrote two this week.

Well, that didn’t work. Back to the normal method of pasting things in.

I’m getting to be a fan of yours, Cynthia. I like the idea of muddling confused thoughts being chimera. There is a demonic and panicy feeling to this image, I think you caught that in your poem.
[...] poem inspired by ReadWritePoem prompt #116 and this week’s Three Word Wednesday [...]

This photo didn’t do it for me this week – but I’ll be reading your responses when I have the chance.
I went a little Greek and Maori this week with:

Here is mine: I posted last night but of course in the wrong place since we are supposed to post after midnight.

Without further adieu, I give you:
A Thousand Words
See the inference:
You walking away
Like a high plains drifter
Ambles into a setting sun
The hands of time writ large
Upon a desert landscape
The gray clouds marbling a desolate sky
As Love decays into Death
I am left behind
Guarding the dusty grave
That was once our lush garden
Staring at a distant horizon
Unbroken
By shade and water
Is this picture worth a thousand words?
Do you need further translation?

This image is an excellent prompt! I posted an older poem that it seemed to suggest:

I got two prompts that fit together in a weird way… Innocent Time
my attempt…

I loved this weeks prompt. The poem came out very different from how I expected. Also finding it difficult to make it stand up alone ie. without the picture – not convinced it’s working as a completed whole. Any comments or criticisms/helps would be most appreciated!

I think it works without the picture, but if you wanted perhaps you could come up with a title that would take the place of the picture. The poem feels whole to me…
I ended reading a plethora of stuff on death, time( physical and philosophical), symbols, Charon and for some reason the sensation of raindrops on the skin…left me no time to actually write about anything…
well…my combobulation of discombobulated thoughts:

Just from an initial survey, it’s interesting how many of us brought death in.
