a call for submissions
The Independent Publishing Resource Center facilitates creative expression and identity by providing individual access to the resources and tools for the creation of independently published media and art.
IPRC is one of the only nonprofit self-publishing centers of its kind anywhere in the world. And they have a call for submissions for their zine, Hamburger to Hotdog!
Here are the details:
They want black-and-white images (photos should be high-contrast) and/or very short pieces of writing (200-300 words max). The deadline is Dec. 15, and you can send all submissions to iprcworkshops (at) gmail (dot) com, or drop them off at the IPRC (in Portland, Ore., USA) with attention to A.M. O’Malley. There is no particular theme, they “simply want to highlight the talents of our community.”
Note: We are looking for a Read Write Poem member to manage a monthly “Calls for Submissions and Publishing News” email to our membership. Could it be you? It could be! Just let us know if you are interested by emailing us at info (at) readwritepoem (dot) org.

- obama’s first hundred days in poetry
March 6, 2010 | 8:36 amArielle Greenberg and Rachel Zucker challenged 100 poets to note the political climate of each of President Obama’s first days in office. The blogged poems have been anthologized in a work called Starting Today: 100 Poems for Obama’s First 100 Days, which will be released in April (ahem, National Poetry Month, although you can pre-order a copy at their blog site).
Read about it here. A hat tip to Rethabile Masilo who posted a link to Rachel Zucker’s poem at his blog, Poéfrika.
