Read Write Poem likes to see rules bent and broken and reconstituted to suit poetic purposes. The good people at failbetter.com have embraced an ignored form, the novella, in their latest contest, a Tenth Anniversary Novella Contest.
“What does this have to do with poetry,” you might well ask? Well how’s this for a crazy idea or two:
November’s NaNoWriMo madness is around the corner. Why don’t you write a prose-poem novella. Or a lyrical novella. Even if you don’t make it all the way to novella in terms of length, at least in the end you will know you pushed yourself and your poetry like you’ve never done before. You will also have gone against the grain by writing a poem (or something poem-ish) that is not the typical one-pager.
So go get your poevella on. (And perhaps win a contest, too!)
