Brenda,

Sorry it took a while to respond to you. Gak. Of course you are welcome here. People write in all sorts of styles and all are welcome.

And it's great to have another Australian on board.

Write, write poetry!

WOW! I'm glad to read everyone's goals for 2009. Rob, I find yours to be especially ambitious and exciting. I hope everything comes to fruition - and for everyone else - in 2009.

Here are my goals for 2009:

1. Get more work published in both print and online journals.

2. Go beyond open mic: have at least one featured poet appearance in 2009.

3. Win at least one slam.

and probably the most important goal to me of them all:

4. This is more of a long range goal that I have for either 2009 or 2010: I am currently writing material for a spoken word CD. I have one poem as the backbone to the CD, with other pieces interwoven in the main poem. The main piece is more lyrical in nature, while the interweaved poems are narrative free verse. My goal is to have the material finished and to have musicians and a studio to record the material in place by the end of 2009. If this happens sooner, I will be overjoyed, but I'm allowing myself two years for this goal to be accomplished. I'm aiming this mostly for Internet distribution and distribution at local events and storefronts in Columbus, but you never know what can happen.....

Here's a most ambitious creative goal.

I have a major project I've been pursuing for some time now. The project has been hampered by false starts, inconsistent personal confidence, and other deeply frustrating obstacles -- such as the tragic death of a son, and my heart attack.

I want to create a 'coffee-table' type book, much like my Image & Verse (I&V). This book idea actually gave birth to my I&V blog as a way to help me develop and refine the concept.

The I&V book will be large size, hard cover, elegant paper stock, and high quality production and printing. The book will contain a larger number of my writings, artworks, and photographs -- many never posted on I&V.

I want the book to reflect the look, feel, and the varied creative content of I&V. For example, the book's pages will be matte black. The print type will be a light color, perhaps creme or tan or grey -- and the fonts will be unique, but easily readable.

The title fonts, and the first letter of each poem and short story, will be a different font style and color from the font style used in the body of each piece -- and will be larger in size.

Each reproduction of my original artwork and photographs will be a 6-color, high-resolution plate.

A CD/DVD of my "Visceral Voice" spoken word recordings will accompany the book as an inside back cover insert.

This is a borderline obsession, and haunts me always. I will make this project happen before I exit this mortal plane -- so why not this year!

Thanks to everyone who posted their top resolutions. And yes, I think it's a good idea to do a midyear follow-up.

My goal: I'm going to write a poem a week.

Good luck, and keep those goals coming.

I love the idea of writing a poem a week in 2009, from the Poetry Action Plan post. I'm going to try that!

I have no great desire to be published (just four of my poems have been anthologised and a handful more submitted). The blogosphere is a wonderful way of sharing and allows for a little creativity with design as well. My action plan is mainly to go through, re-draft and organise my poems whilst continuing to write at least one poem a week.

At seventy-eight I know I'm either going to achieve my goals or drop off the twig!!! I've written and performed all my life but most of my writing has ended up on scraps of paper in a box. The internet and blogging have opened up a new world for me. I publish a new poem every day and I intend to carry-on doing that 'forever'! I suppose it's smug to say I feel successful! Were I younger I might aim higher (as a performance poet) but this is good enough for me now. I love being given 'homework' so I'll be visiting your blog for inspiration. I'm afraid most of my poems rhyme, either doggerel-wise or lyrically, but I do, occasionally, attempt something deeper. Will I do? By the way, I'm Australian.

Being the curious person that I am, I would love to have a mid-year check in with everyone. It's fun to share, and plus, we can inspire one another to keep on going as it'll only be a half of year left, you know. :) Are you all game for that? I am!!
