Okay, I'm experincing a bit of prompt burnout or maybe I really should say that sometimes I simply need to sit with a prompt a bit before I write.

Anywhoo, here's a something else. All feedback welcome.

I'm stuck with long, long hours at work this week, but I didn't want to miss this prompt - this has been rattling around in the back of my brain for days now...

[...] Is the angler fish ever tempted by its own bait? Does it ever stir from whatever trance-like state passes for sleep in the aphotic zone, see the glowing decoy & think, Ah — mine! & surge forward, jaws agape, like the proverbial donkey tempted by a carrot? Or does it get snappish at its traveling companion, persistent as a bad conscience, haunting as the image of its own death? __________ Written for the Read Write Poem prompt, “traveling companions.” Links to other poems for the prompt are here.
Here's a travel poem by a 12th grader. I've thought it could be read at every high school graduation and improve the quality considerably.

I've posted a response to comments on I Have This To Say About That here: Politics & Poetics

I hope I don't sound defensive; I'm actually interested and excited to see such interest in something I've done. I've rarely given one of my own poems this kind of attention; my poems rarely get this (particular) kind of attention from others.
